Water meter replacement

The Water Department continues to replace all of its water meters with new radio read meters. Currently, the existing manually read water meters are over ten years of age and replacement these older meters is prudent for accurate water registration for each household. The Meter Replacement Program will be completed shortly. The technological advances in the water industry have enabled water departments, such as Groton’s, to reevaluate priorities and shift staffing needs proportionately. In addition, the Water Department has upgraded its billing software to a “windows” based program to enable the staff to bill water and sewer use on a monthly basis as opposed to the current method of quarterly billing and provide you the customer with more information on personal water use.

· No need for water department personnel to enter basement to read meter.

· Increased accuracy in billing.

· Decreased man hours spent reading meters.
